But first, an apology.
My last post was made under the influence of “bad mood”. I have recovered from “bad mood”, and can now speak in a more sane fashion. It was also partly due to “Not having all the information” syndrome, which has also been cured.
I retract all badness that I said about invasive advertising in my last post. I have censored it, as well. I was not, at the time, aware of the status of “Frozen Indigo Angel”, how long it had been running, and had certainly not been aware that it was planned by Mind Candy from the beginning. This opens up possibilities. ARG crossovers are not good, in my opinion, but this isn’t. I no longer, actually, know what sites are made by Mind Candy and what are made by the BBC, and that lack of boundaries does scare me, somewhat.
Today, people read my previous blog entry, and took offense, defending the ARG crossover in a very aggressive way. I feel that I’ve annoyed them.
But I apologise, for everything. Except I feel that this comment was uncalled for:
[21:22:48] <MasterCheese> Looks like this is the usual “Ooh, lets complain about EVERYTHING that MC do”
This annoys me, a hell of a lot. I was voicing a concern with what MC was doing, and bringing up the possibility that MC may, based on this event, perform a full-on crossover into another more established ARG. And all I got was what came across as an extremely aggressive reply,
[21:20:12] <MasterCheese> Mindez: So you’re saying that because they did it once, they’ll do it with every ARG ever?
I did not suggest nor imply that. I brought up the possibility that they may attempt to do that once. We have no idea how Mind Candy is going to steer Perplex City in season 2, they’re being very secretive. Now we have the first multiplayer episode, and we have what should be a taste of the direction they’re moving toward, and it seems to me to be steering towards an ARG crossover somewhere. But no, of course not, everyone knows better than me, Mind Candy wouldn’t do that, would they? They’ve convinced themselves that it’s a one-time thing, and that it won’t happen.
But what if?
I bring up a hypothetical situation, and get attacked for it. I just want Perplex City to do well. And any single tiny piece of critique that I have gets shot down immediately, calling it “attacking MC for every tiny thing they do”. Because it’s a tiny piece of critique does not mean it attacks everything they do. I personally have had so much fun so far with season 2, what I’ve seen of it, anyway. And I take it as an insult that I would critique them for *EVERYTHING* and attack them for *EVERYTHING* and hate them and think Perplex City is crap and whatever else they’re blaming me for.
People can’t take critique nowadays. Or hypothetical critique, it seems. And everyone knows how season 2 is going to go, and what they will and won’t do already, and knows exactly how far Mind Candy will go with this.
Hah.
I don’t mind what MC has done here – it’s not an amazingly brilliant move (Though the BBC/Mind Candy crossover has been very unexpected) but I do think that they are treading a fine line with the whole “breaking the fourth wall” thing, so far.
I wish MC the best of luck in staying on that fine line.
One more post to come later today, explaining what’s going on with the storyline. I’ve made 4 posts today, I’m scared. JUST ONE MORE I PROMISE.
