Oh my.
I’m slightly depressed right now. The worst possible news has been brought to my attention today… Perplex City has been postponed, indefinitely.
The story team have all left Mind Candy today, on the very day that we were promised that the ARG would take place.. Damn. The cards and puzzles will still be given on the WeLovePuzzles website, but the ARG.. is no more. The perplexcitystories.com site talks as if it will be for a couple of months, but having read the developer’s blogs… they’ve all left Mind Candy, and it sounds more like a matter of years, if ever.
This is truly a sad day in ARG history. One of, if not, the best ARGs ever made and organised has closed. There will be more, there are many more in progress as I write this, being played by players all over the world, but none that, in my opinion, come anywhere close to Perplex City’s greatness. Perhaps more will come – the team has gone off to do ‘other projects’, which gets my hopes up slightly, but still I’m pessimistic. The Mind Candy website, particularly the recruitment page, sounds like “Mind Candy” will simply turn into a kiddies website. I wish them luck, of course.
Perplex City was a bit of an inspiration to me, the thought of learning things in school and being able to apply them to real situations to help save lives & help people was always something that kept me learning, and possibly what enabled me to turn my life around and go from the “BEU” student that I was last year to the straight-A student I am now.
Without Perplex City, then, will I revert? I certainly hope not, and hope that another ARG will come along that is as engrossing as Perplex City was.
I’m sad now. The Center for Reality Research is closed, the link is down. They can see us, but we can’t see them.
I need an ARG.
